Organizing a barbecue with the neighbours next door, go out for the weekend together, manage the bar during a theme party or visiting the sun blessed South of France during the summer holidays with all your house mates. Living in a student house is more than just renting a room…
I live in a student house in the Hoogstraat. This is the main shopping street of Wageningen, which eventually leads to a market surrounded by bars and their terraces. A nice place indeed, with a supermarket and pubs on just a distance that is easy to walk. A lot of students live in the centre of Wageningen, giving the area a nice and cosy, ‘student-like’ atmosphere.
We live in our house with six girls from different studies and of different ages. We are all members of student association Ceres, where we often go to for a drink or to manage the bar during a theme party. We always try to dress as appropriate as possible for this theme party, so that we have a chance of winning the prize for the ‘best suited’. During the summer we enjoy the luxury of the terrace on our roof, by drinking wine until late in the evening, after a good barbecue.
How much do you pay for a room in Wageningen, you might wonder. In student houses you usually pay between 180 and 300 euro’s every month. I have been very lucky: in our house, the cheapest room will only cost you 145 euro’s a month! The biggest costs 180 euro’s. This means you will have quite a big part of your study grant left to spend to other things…
Living on your own is just wonderful. You are close to the university and you get to know a lot of students in just a very short period of time. You decide what you eat, what you do, how long you stay at a party and how you spend your time. Very instructive… and relaxed…
