A huge event in Wageningen is the annual Liberation Festival. It is one of the biggest and most visited liberation festivals in the Netherlands. Spread out across the city there are more than ten stages where different bands and DJs perform all day. Because Wageningen is the city where the peace treaty was signed after the second world war, many veterans come to Wageningen every year to be in the liberation parade. The festival is put on hold for an hour to applaud the many veterans from the Netherlands and abroad while they go through the city in a long procession. In the procession of veterans there are all kinds of vehicles from that time period, and old aeroplanes fly over. After the parade the festival goes on till the early hours of the morning.
